Angelina Penner (M.A Student)
Angelina Penner enrolled in the Mphil Programme Anthropology of Development at the Univesity of Bergen in August 2014, and, at the same time, joined the BPS Research Group.
Angelina’s curiosity for cultures and societies in general and for the Pacific in particular, led her to study anthropology at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. There, her interests grew into a passion for the Pacific. A milestone during Angelina’s studies was a group-based fieldwork on the island Tubetube in Papua New-Guinea, which was initiated by the University of Heidelberg in 2013. The impressions and experiences she gained there formed a main part of her Bachelor thesis, that focused on the topics of healing and witchcraft in Melanesia.
Angelina’s first contact with the University of Bergen was established through the conference of the European Society for Oceanianists (ESfO), that was held in Bergen in 2012. Ever since, the idea of studying in Bergen and participating in the Bergen Pacific Group seemed appealing.
She is currently planning her fieldwork, planned for summer 2015.
