Nora Haukali (PhD Candidate)
M.A., University of Bergen
Nora Haukali holds a BA and MA degree in social anthropology from the University of Bergen..
Having developed a curiosity for the Pacific early in her studies, along with a general interest in climate and nature, Haukali decided to do her master’s research on weather in a rural village on the island of Gau in Fiji. Weather is, no doubt, relevant for people all around the world, but the impact that weather has on everyday life is, arguably, felt more acutely by some than others.
In her research, Haukali focuses on everyday life and on local knowledge of weather, as well as people’s understanding and interpretation of the changes surrounding them. Local perceptions on weather and changes in weather are particularly interesting in a place where people are closely connected to land and nature, and live in a semi-subsistent economy where they rely mainly on their surroundings for their living.
