The Bergen Pacific Studies Research Group – BPS for short – is composed of scientific staff (professors, associate professors, postdoctoral fellows and PhD candidates) and MA students from the University of Bergen’s Department of Social Anthropology. The group also has a few Associate Scholars from external institutions. The size of the group has remained more or less stable the last few years, with a core of about ten scholars from the Bergen anthropology department and the Bergen University Museum.

The group has continuously recruited from the department’s MA student body. Several current core members started their Pacific careers as students in the department, oriented towards Pacific work through intellectual exchange with established  scholars.

International recruitment to the group has been on the rise over the recent years. Several of the BPS group’s on-going projects have provided opportunities for short- and longer-term visits (with department residence) of collaborating scholars.
