Professor Ingjerd Hoëm

Magister 1990, PhD 1996, University of Oslo

Ingjerd Hoëm is Professor at the department of Social Anthropology, University of Oslo, and has been the Director of the NFR-funded projects Anthropos and the Material, and Identity Matters: Movement and Place. She has worked since 1986 in Tokelau, and in New Zealand. Her work deals with communication and performance, political change, and labour. Her publications include Languages of Governance in Conflict. Negotiating democracy in Tokelau. John Benjamins Publishing Company: Amsterdam (2015), «State, labour and kin: tensions of value in an egalitarian community», in Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute (2018) and Theatre and Political Process: Staging Identities in Tokelau and New Zealand. Berghahn, Oxford, New York (2004).

From 2016 Professor Hoëm is also the Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Oslo.
